Young and old, black and white, straight and gay, slim and curvaceous; and everything in between... the hundreds of participants in this year’s Cape Town Carnival are a true reflection of the colourful inhabitants that make the Mother City great. It doesn’t matter where you are from or how you make a living, just put on your dancing shoes and let Cape Town welcome you! Some might even argue that the fact that the carnival took place just after the traditional carnival period, can be attributed to the notorious laidback Cape vibe... Although there were many references to The Carnival in Rio, the Cape Town Carnival - which is set to be a yearly spectacle - is undeniably authentic. The crowd in Long Street cheered, clapped and laughed as the colourful performers danced to the music - ranging from traditional Indian folklore to pumping house beats and the minstrel brass bands.
The colourful floats represented the many things that make this city and this country great… from the dinosaurs that once roamed this land to the splendor of the two oceans and the kaleidoscopes of cultures. For those of you who missed the party on Saturday or those who want to relive it… Enjoy the Youtube video and some photos that Zippy took at the event!
